Mbala basic school was founded in 1932, the school has 713 pupils, 40 - 55 pupils pr class, 20 classes, 28 teachers.Boys get to go to school, but not alway girls. There is no staff room. The teachers job is to raise the children, they teach both young and the older ones, they're very dedicated to their work. The teachers are NOT allowed to punish the pupils physically. They have to use a uniform, they can't come to school without it. They have to walk a very long way to school, 30 minutes. School starts at 7 AM, but some doesn't start until after lunch. They have few classrooms, they are dark and small, they're dark because people have stolen the powerlines. Some of the people there had never seen a white person before. Dancing and music is very imprtant and the guests got a warm welcome. We discussed conflictmanagement, democarcy, Norad (origination where the money comes from. The mothers teach their children, they get pregnant when they're 14 and they have to go to school after giving birth.

Some of the children have no parents. The average age is 40. People usually die of Malaria or aids. It's a huge problem.
The school starts the second week of January. Pupils off in April, August and December. They have national exams in 7. and 9. grade. They get very good results.
dance and music is very important
